About Us

Birth Institute is dedicated to advancement and professionalism in the field of maternal and newborn health. We are committed to personal integrity, diversity, global perspectives and high achievement, and we infuse these values into every aspect of our organization.

Our administrative offices are located in Boulder, Colorado but we do not have a physical campus. Our small and growing community is comprised of faculty and students from around the world, connected via an online classroom. Programs and courses are offered on a quarterly academic calendar, which means that we are engaged with students year-round.

Availible Positions

Online Instructor(s), Holistic Midwifery Program

Responsibilities:

  • Develops syllabus and learning activities for 3-6 online courses per quarter, including: video lectures, power point presentations, reading assignments, case reviews, quizzes/exams and group discussion. Please visit Midwifery Sciences (MWS) and Complementary & Alternative Health (CAM) to read full course descriptions.
  • Provides ongoing, timely feedback on student assignments and monitors student progress, attendance and retention using the Birth Institute online classroom.
  • Ensures that course content supports Birth Institute learning outcomes as stated in the Holistic Midwifery curriculum and is in compliance International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) and North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) requirements.
  • Maintains regular office hours and fosters a positive and collaborative learning environment for students and peers.

Requirements:

  • A record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship, leadership and women’s health.
  • Nationally certified midwife (CPM, CM, CNM) with at least two years of current experience in full scope midwifery practice OR Legally recognized in a jurisdiction, province or state as a practitioner who provides women’s health or maternity care with at least two years of experience in full scope practice.
  • Advanced training and certifications required to become a Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) instructor. Acceptable specialties include: homeopathy, herbalism, Chinese medicine, and/or nutrition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faculty staff, administrators and students.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including knowledge of MS Office, online classroom, video conferencing, internet research and student data tracking and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills.

Supplemental Information:

  • Part-Time, flexible hours.
  • Estimated commitment: 15-30 hours/week, 3-6 courses per academic quarter.
  • Year-round (no summer break).
  • Remote office, work from home.
  • Compensation based on experience.

Director of Education

 

Responsibilities:

  • Works with faculty, staff, students, college constituents, and business leaders to promote excellence in teaching, research and community learning.
  • Schedules stand-alone courses and certificate programs, tracks enrollment, and analyzes all courses and programs to ensure revenue generation and overall quality.
  • Develops and achieves strategic goals, including annual revenue and enrollment goals.
  • Develops and manages budgets; prepares reports as needed.
  • Promotes enrollment and revenue growth by adhering to industry best practices and benchmarks, as well as monitoring expenses to ensure fiscal viability of the program.
  • Works with the Associate Director of Admissions to ensure that admissions materials are accurate and compelling.
  • Oversees ongoing assessment and improvement of curriculum and education policies and maintains documentation related to educational objectives, activities, evaluation methods and policies.
  • Fosters new program development by collecting and interpreting data from competitive market analysis, student and instructor feedback, internal/external input and other informational sources to optimize for current trends in experiential learning, distance education, competency-based approaches to learning, complimentary and alternative approaches to healthcare, leadership and personal development.
  • Ensures that programs and courses are in compliance with all applicable State, national and international standards; advises faculty on how to comply with these standards; and reports changes to existing standards or related policies to the admissions department and enrolled students as needed.
  • Recruits, interviews and recommends hiring of qualified instructors and staff; facilitates their training and motivation.
  • Supervises and evaluates staff and instructors; oversees faculty training and development; approves course syllabi; completes their performance appraisals; and administers disciplinary action when instructors fail to comply with academic policies and job expectations.
  • Acts as a liaison between Birth Institute faculty/students and study abroad partners to ensure that curriculum, policies and financial obligations are understood and administered by all parties.
  • Oversees student orientation; ensures that orientation content reflects current programs and policies as stated in handbook and catalog.
  • Documents and responds to student complaints in a timely fashion consistent with the student grievance policy, including documentation of suspension, withdrawal and/or complaints, in compliance with Birth Institute policies.
  • The Education Director may have teaching responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in relevant area
  • Three years of successful experience in higher education, including program development, promotion and implementation.
  • A record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship, leadership and international service.
  • Three years of experience developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Three years of experience supervising employees.
  • Excellent problem solving and management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faculty staff, administrators and students.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including knowledge of MS Office, online classroom, video conferencing, internet research and student data tracking and management.
  • A wide degree of creativity, autonomy and latitude is expected.
  • Nationally certified midwife (CPM, CM, CNM) with at least two years of current experience in full scope midwifery practice preferred.
